skiing!

This year I promised Bernard that I would try some winter sports with him. Now, usually when I think of winter sports, I think of sledding down a hill in a plastic sled. Not very athletic, I know. But, since marrying a man from the Great White North, I've found myself trying all sorts of new things.
This winter I have taken up cross-country skiing thanks to Grandma who provided the money for ski boots and a few pieces of hand-me-down gear. I must admit, I was a bit intimidated by balancin
g on two long, skinny pieces of wood. But, Bernard insisted that anyone who can walk can ski. (He would believe that since he started skiing at age 2!) So, after carefully listening how to fasten myself to the ski, trying a few 50-point turns, sliding down a slope and bruising my tail bone, eating snow and getting cramps in my wrists, I've tried cross-country skiing! I'm nowhere near as good as Bernard, but with a little practice maybe I'll actually be able to not think about what I'm doing. As for the whole "you can ski if you can walk" thing, my verdict is still out. I'll keep you posted. :0)
